Things Great In '08'

This past year Mitch finished his associates at SLCC and did really well in his classes.  He is planning on finishing school at UVU - but because of his job at ARUP it might take a while. 

I finally and deservedly finished my Master's program at BYU - a relief because writing that thesis just about did me in.  In fact, it was probably the hardest thing i've ever done - goodness knows why they call it a two year degree - it's really two years to finish the classes and then two years to write your thesis.   

  

I've had a great year as far as my plays go.  I had Roofsliding produced on the main-stage at BYU in March/April and it was really one of the greatest experiences.  I had the best actors and the best director ever.  

I also had my plays "Ladybirds and the Strawberry," "Yellow Umbrellas," and "Without Fear" all produced...all fabulous if I don't say so myself.  

Another great thing that happened this year is Mitch and I found out that I'm PREGNANT - I know, I never really thought of myself as a mother.  But now that it's happening we're thrilled and talk about it all the time.  I'm due sometime in August, but not exactly sure yet - we'll keep you up-dated about that.

watching movies!?****

The sordid truth is that I can't find work...so I've resolved myself to watching movies, in between the occasional short epileptic spasms of writing...
That and gymnastics... which I am absolutely obsessed with. The scoring system remains one of the world's infernal mysteries, but I am determined to crack the code.

THE EDGE OF THE WORLD

This one was made in the 1930's by Powell, and while it's a wee bit melodramatic is full of meaning and undertone.
I like the concept of the land being the edge of the world - thematically and literally for these people. The shots are stunning, and the tension is captured in such an intense way that the story becomes riveting.




Brideshead Revisited.

I got sick of waiting for someone to come and see it with me, so I went by myself.
The thing that always baffles me about these types is how the whole story revolves around a love that is completely and utterly insubstantial. They're in love, but why, who the heaven's knows?

I do get the impression that Woody Allen is a bit of a pervert, but if you can look beyond that then I think you'll be ok.

I'm Lame

I can't believe how long it has been since I have written on this.

Lets just chalk it up to not really having anything great to say...for some reason I feel like no news is bad news, so it's better left unsaid. But that's ridiculous.

of late I went to see a play with Brighton -- Twelfth Night - her brother was in it and he gave a stellar performance...

"Virgin" is a play that I wrote for Sohrab - a fabulous film-maker. it's a 3 min based on The Tempest.

Mitch just finished up some more classes....he got 2 A's, i know - i'm proud of him...
and we've been watching scottish films...

Also, Mitch and I saw "Mongol" at the Broadway - I loved the shots in it - they were so beautiful. and then we saw a doc about Hunter Thompson - wouldn't recommend that though I think it was definitely worth the watch.

I also just finished "Kim" - you know, the one by Kipling - it was a wee bit difficult to get into because the language, the codes, and the shifts were difficult to understand.
But really worth it, I really enjoyed a lot of the culture and the way that Kipling captured an expression.
